Adjusment disorder

An adjustment disorder occurs when an individual is unable to or cope with a particular outside stressor like a major life event.

There are different types of adjustment disorder which are characterized some of the these symptoms: depressed mood, anxiety, mixed anxiety and depression, disturbances of conduct or disturbancies of emotions and conduct. Symptoms must occur within 3 month of the onset of the stressor, must cause significant distress or impairment in important areas of functioning and do not persist more than the consequencies of the stressor have ended.

Treatment

Therapy should focus on developing the individuals to express their feeling, thoughts referring to the stressor, and after help the them to learnin more adaptive ways to cope with stressor or adopt a new situation.
